Herbs and Tea
Hi! I love plants. So many kinds, so many smells, so many colors, so. many. uses. I have always found that Montessorians know just how to liven up a room with plants. Though my thumb has never been the greenest,
I love all the plant care that goes into a The Children's House. Plant polishing, watering a plant, and flower arrangement to name just a few. What inspired these 3-part cards were herb growing and tea making. Part one of these cards (picture only) can be used for vocabulary lessons. Parts two and three can be added for your readers after they've mastered the vocabulary lessons.
Growing herbs in your environment pairs well with these cards. Space allowing, an outdoor herb garden is fabulous. Especially since many herbs are resilient perennials. If you're looking for an indoor option, I have always had great luck with these kits. Depending on where you live you may also want to invest in a growing light like this one. I don't think the brand matters much. Once the herbs are mature you can present:
Herb Harvesting
Herb Drying (this could work)
Herb Grinding with Mortar and Pestle
Tea Making
What plant-based activities have brought joy and success in your environment?
Happy Teaching :)
